Bridging Redwood
Edition #01
Quick background: In the current environment, we’ve spoken with many talented university muslim students aiming to build transformative businesses that will enable a better future. Often students have little idea for the vast industries needing our attention. After many of these lengthy chats, we thought it’s best to put our thinking down in writing and share in case helpful to anyone else.
Hi all,
Welcome to the very first Redwood newsletter.
We are very excited to launch this new format today.
🌴 Come and build strong roots
Before we start, we would like to announce the our next upcoming Founder Series event with Ibrahim Khan
If students can’t meet the founders in their offices, we invite them to universities bi-weekly, for a moment of conviviality and sharing. This series of meetings launched 4 months ago with our first guest Atif Yaqub, Partner at Taplow Capital.
We hope to answer the questions that you might have in the practicalities of building a robust Islamic economy within existing financial systems. Many advocate for the revitalisation of our communities, but few provide concrete steps to achieve it.
Make sure to meet us on

We also recommend this week 📅
Yusraa, a start-up which has recently launched its go-to-market having built its first prototype. An ambitious goal building greater community connection within mosques.
Salmaan Bari, a young Irishman eloquently speaks to Zain Mobarik about his PreFessionals start-up connecting SMEs with budding students. An honest and enjoyable listen.
A reminder from Nouman Ali Khan about the long-lasting importance of building communities.
2024 Planning
So far we’ve launched a number of workshops and built quite literally from the ground up here in the University of Warwick.
We have hosted a number of workshops facilitating over 180+ community members and incubated three separate start-ups.
A highlight was an event at Queen Mary, where we helped co-ordinate a huge event with Harris Irfan at the helm.
Building our Launchpad 🚀
Up next will be our Summer Launchpad!
With exams just around the corner, most students are gearing up to tackle them with their full conviction. Post exams, anyone who was fortunate enough to claim a summer internship will be busy for sure.
But for hungry, geared up students, we want to give them the work experience by connecting them with top founders and professionals. This will be across a wide range of industries and disciplines. And of course, open to all, but with a thorough vetting process.
You will gain a practical insight into how businesses actually run, have an ability to meet with companies and startups, and develop your network just a bit further. For business owners, it’s a great opportunity to get a fresh pair of eyes in who can add that generational flare to your firm.
